Hi. I’m so happy to have found this board. My girls have been seeing a psychologist for social-emotional problems for over a year now. They will be 4 in a few months. I had them tested for admission to our local “special” preschool last year, but we were declined. I’ve had them in regular preschool this year, but the social-emotional issues remain. I’m having them tested for the school district again, but I fear we’ll be denied again. My question is this, the only “regular” school their psychologist says they can attend will cost us $3500 next year. I don’t have that kind of money. Does anyone know of any government assistance available for kids who have problems but aren’t qualifying for the free pulic preschool rpogram? When they were littlier I got money to take them for extra lessons and such, but now that they are out of Early Intervention, I’m not sure where to turn for that sort of help. Thanks!

It’s very similar except we got in a special preK via medical challenges. The SD is dragging their feet on behavioral though. I took my daughter outside for an evaluation. Insurance will pay for most of it. Now I have proof that she needs supportive services. Doesn’t mean they are jumping at the chance to help her but I do have amo now. BTW my daughter tests ok or a little below the line but get her in a class of kids and her deficencies shine.
I teach developmental preschool. What kind of test were your children given? If their concerns are enough to bring you to a psych. than it would seem enough to qualify them. Were there any other areas of concern? Did they test cognitive, motor, and self-help skills? It seems unfair that you would need to pay big bucks for a quality preschool program. My son struggled with social skills but was included and accepted at a local, affordable preschool program. He did not qualify in any other area of need and did well in his preschool. Let me know if there is something that I could add to maybe help.
