Question about behavior plan

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I actually posted a similar topic on another board, but saw this one and thought I would ask for help here too.

4th Grade boy: ADHD/Impulsivity/Nervous Tics/Depression - Idea for excessive talking in class - 504 plan implemented.

My 10-year-old boy described above has severe talking problems (due to the impulsivity) in school. He is excluded from group seating and is highly distracted by all external stimuli in an open classroom environment. Hyperactivity is not a problem - only the excessive talking. The behavior management practice of choice by teachers for the last 4 years: punishment by removing him from the class seating and sending him to a “time out” room. Teachers will not use a seating arrangement conducive to children with attentive problems (they have several in the class) and no behavioral plan has been created by staff. My son responds extremely well to behavior management strategies used at home to encourage good behavior if implemented and utilized in a manner favorable to the ADHD profile. His psychologist has prescribed 50 mg of Imipramine. Does anyone have information or any ideas of a behavioral plan that can be tried to encourage the right behavior in this situation.

Thank you for your time

IDEA requires an FBA, and a BIP be developed under spicific reasons. I would get the school doing a FBA, and Look at Other Health Impared for the ADHD if the school will not ID as ESE if the behaviors iterfear with FAPE.

Hope you understand all the letters. LOL

My son who is 9, recently diagnosed ADHD. His main problems are the excessive talking as well. His school only has him set up on SST. Student Support Team. He is also in a smaller classroom environment 14 kids and a cozy living room type atmosphere. EIP. He is the only child that has a traditional desk to work at and he is not allowed to work in centers with other children. He is by himself in all centers thru out the day. The teacher says he keeps the others from being able to work to thier abilities. I have ask for a behavior plan, educational assessments as well as psycological assessments and so forth. I have been told that their are doing all they can do. I have registered him in an 8 week behavior clinic for 4 hours a day which he will be sterting in a couple of weeks. I too am concerned what this separation will do to the little self esteem that he has. His teacher says she thinks he likes working alone. But I am the one that hears him cry at night because he is constantly chastized at school. He has had special seating since he started kindergarten. I dont know what else to do either. So my question is, how do you get a them to implement the behavior plan? Also, How do you get your child on a 504 plan or listed under IDEA. My sons doctors wrote that on his med report (Fall under IDEA laws and OHI) given to the school and they still say that they are doing the most for him they can.
