Re: tourette's syndrome

My son is 5 going on six in February of this year. His dad noticed that he has been having tics. It started off as hardly noticeable with throat clearing and snorting to his arm and foot jerking. This has been going on a few months. He was recently seen by a neurologist who told us because it is genetic he may have tourette’s syndrome and to try behavior intervention. I’ve been reading that magnesium supplements help with the tics and calm the child down. Has anybody tried this, or had success? What do you recommend? This is all new to me. He also has begun being more active.

If he is on meds it is probably the meds. I don’t think there is any behavioral treatments for Tourette’s.

He should be someone with experience in Tourette’s. Behavior mod can help with some of the minor tics but repressing them can cause some additional problems. I haven’t heard of supplements helping but if you can find a doctor who understands that aspect, it might be worth a shot.

http://www.schoolbehavior.com/conditions_ts.htm has some good information on tourette’s.

Read up on the disorder, get more information. :)
