Social Skills Training for Dyslexic Students

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone have suggestions on what type of professional does social skills training? My son attends a private Dylexic School in Austin, Tx and parents of 12-14 year olds are looking to have social skills training for our children. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

Usually a school counselor may teach. But, it is usually taught here in Miami by special ed teachers. You may want to look up the topic of character education. Role playing and modeling helps alot. What I do is have students copy a very simple basic outline from the board on strategies like how to have self-control, problem-solving, etec. and then role play. Another great book that I use is Sean Covey’s ,THE 7 EFFECTIVE HABITS FOR TEENAGERS. Hope this helps.
