Can someone brief me on what is an IEP, the general nature of the need for an IEP and obtaining an IEP.

An IEP is an individual education plan. When a student becomes eligible for special education services (determined from a psychological and achievement evaluation) they must have an IEP. The IEP describes the present level of performance and outlines goals and objectives that the student will attain with a mastery level such as 80%, how they will be evaluated and how progress will be reported.
