Latin with Dyslexics

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi,
I have a 9th grader who is currently taking Latin I with good success. I was told that Latin would be helpful to him and it has been. Due to redistricting my son is to go to a new school that will not offer Latin. There are many reasons it is imperative he stay at the school he is at. Our only line of defense is Latin. I am looking for information and data showing benefits of Latin vs. other foreign languages. Please write at your earliest convenience if you have information. Thank you !

My daughter had one of the best Latin teachers in the country. She probably knows information and research sites.

Her name is Ms. Squire and she teaches at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Unfortunately phone messages to the school are worse than useless.

Try this email (It’s two years old and I’m giving it from memory, but give it a shot) [email protected]

If that doesn’t work, email me back and I will steel myself to go over there and try to deliver a message in person, which doesn’t get lost half the time.

ALSO: go to the education database online, ERIC, and search under “languages” “foreign languages” and “Latin”. Something should come up.
