The French-American School of San Francisco (http://www.fais-ihs.org) is looking for a
Lower and Middle School Learning Specialist

Job Scope
The Learning Specialist supports students encountering academic difficulties by conducting diagnostic screenings, by working with students in small groups, and by referring them to outside specialists or organizations for a complete evaluation or other specialized support.

The Learning Specialist collaborates closely with the classroom teachers, the counselor, administrators and the parents.

Major Responsibilities
Administer initial screening of students referred by teachers for academic concerns (memory, writing, comprehension, attention, etc.)
Report results to teachers and parents and make recommendations for further outside evaluation or support, for interventions in the classroom, and provide specific referrals, as needed.
Liaison between parents and outside support services.
Facilitate Student Support Team (SST) meetings and help plan strategies to be implemented in the classroom.
Work with students in small groups on subject area remediation or educational therapy.

Experience Required
1. Experience working as a Learning Specialist in a school, clinic or in private practice
2. Knowledge of laws concerning learning differences and the appropriate diagnostic support available, as well as organizations and specialists located in the San Francisco area.
3. Ability to utilize computer technology

Educational Requirements
Training and experience as a Learning Specialist or Educational Therapist. A Masters degree in related field preferred.

Special Skills Required
Ability to communicate and work in a team
Good command of French
Ability to promote FAIS’ philosophy and objectives
