Diagnostic-Prescriptive Teaching Practicum

Instructors: Michael Minsky and Marcia Hamm

Offered: July 21 - August 3, 2002

The course is designed to give participants a working knowledge of diagnostic-prescriptive teaching within the framework of an Orton-Gillingham approach to language remediation. Participants will conduct individual tutorials to local learning-disabled children at Greenwood. Participants will administer a variety of assessments such as The Gray Oral Reading Test and The Gallistel-Ellis Decoding Test to the students, construct a report on their needs, plan lessons based on explicit phonics based multi-sensory techniques and write recommendations for future instruction of the students. Class discussion will focus on error analysis, student needs, and specific techniques to remediate those needs. Participants will be asked to demonstrate competencies through class participation, written reports on their students, lesson plans and observations of their tutoring. The final project will consist of a report analyzing tutee’s errors, performance and offering recommendations.

Six graduate credits, room and board available.
