Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

hello, Iam new to this, so bare with me. My child is 16- going on 17 in april, and is fascinated with fire, have brought him to the fire chief, hospitals ect..But nothing seems to help. he is being self destructive. was recently suspended for 5 days because he brought and drank alchol at school..me and my husband dont drink, but we did have the alchol in our house, we have now thrown out all the liquor. I dont no what to do, he has decided not to take his meds. he sees a councelor, but that dosent work, my biggest worry is he has no self esteem and no friends, he lays around the house and yells when I ask him to do something, his grades are some what ok, his classes are adapted for his learning disability. please help. I dont no if I can take it anymore…Robin

If the present counseling isn’t doing the trick maybe try to find someone who is better. Ann Landers even says keep trying til you find the right one. I wouldn’t give up on the counseling. You didn’t say but if you aren’t getting support yourself, maybe that would at least help you deal with your son.I know teen years are hard and kids experiment and push limits like crazy. The fire thing. I think that maybe something else altogether and would investigate very quickly.Mind you I am just a mom like you, so don’t take this as expert opinion, just that of a mom who cares about other moms dealing with all the stuff we do and their kids. Please write back and let us know how things are working out. I have checked out this board for quite a while and folks here seem very supportive of all the people who write. Take care. Amy
