An IQ score in and of itself means almost nothing. Without other info it is hard to tell what that means. I have once heard that an IQ test measures what an IQ test measures.

As a *score* it is on the low side, but this doesn’t say much. Was she sick, taking some medication, did she not understand the test, etc etc.

Even if it is low, a person with a real 66 IQ can function ok in society, I mean do all the things that someone with a 100 IQ can— get a job, fall in love, etc. Might need more support that sort of thing.

But we would really need more info about this kid. IQ is pretty much a meaningless no, without all sorts of info.

Your daughter, regardless of IQ, has rights as an adult unless a guardian has been appointed…including the right to privacy(new HIPPA regs, etc) and to give consent for release of info and testing; if she is still in school, have her meet with the evaluation team to review test(s), results, and future planning; if not in school, try local voc. rehab. dept. of your state for help. Other info that would help understand her needs would be: how many times has she been tested, why and by whom, is she in school, or working, does she have a driver’s lic, does she live with you or idependently, and what do you understand about her needs/testing/diagnosis?

An IQ of 100 is average.

IQs between 85 and 115 are in the average range.

As others have said, an IQ of 66 would be low. It may be a mispresentation of your daughter (that is, she was having a bad day on the day of the test and her IQ is really higher) or it may be correct.

IQ scores in themselve, tell us very, very little about your daughter. May I ask why you asked? Maybe we can help more?

A child with an IQ between 50 and 69 is classified as educable. They may be able to learn to read and write at a 4th-5th grade level, live independently, learn to drive, and work with appropriate training.

What is considered normal IQ is 90-110. That should encompass about half the population. An IQ between 70 and 80 is classified as a borderline deficiency. If you consider possible errors in your daughter’s testing, she may be in either the educable or borderline deficiency range. With some help, she should be able to live a relatively normal independent life as long as she has no other issues.
