Beyond the 30 Min a day tutoring

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I realize that some parents have trouble even getting 30 min a day tutoring with a class of seven. So I do appreciate what I do have. The problem is that it isn’t working. Any suggestions as to what I should ask for at the IEP meeting on Wed?
He has been evaluated, sits up front, has a class helper, special ed teacher joins the main class daily but helps about 11 children at once, 30 minutes of tutoring with a special ed teacher but helps seven other children at once, and thats about it besides all the goals on the IEP that I feel probablya ren’t being worked on.
Also, do I have to notify someone if I want to tape WED IEP meeting?
I feel like I know what needs to be done as far as write my requests down, ask for this and that, record their response, ask again, but I don’t feel I know what to ask for.
Any thoughts,
Thanks,
Sue

When we say “it isn’t working”, we can mean one or both of two things. Either there is no noticable improvement in his skills eg. he does not read any better or write any better than ever or his grades have not improved.

It would be helpful to know if that’s what you mean before trying to offer suggestions as to what else should be done differently.

You have summarized the problem with “inclass” services, a model that has been popular for several years now. I would ask for pull-out services.
