Help

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a long time since I have posted to an LD bulletin board. In fact, since Schwab learning changed to Great Schools. However, a lot has happened since those days. I have one child who is smart, talented, well-liked and who happens to have dyslexia. As I made my way through this process, I began to realize that I needed more than just advocacy training through my state and Wrights laws. I am finishing up my psychology degree with Lesley University.

This revelation came when my son wanted to make his way from private to public school for high school. Against my better judgment I said yes, and for two years we fought a battle that I wish upon no parent or child. The first school was ok but the second, a prominent local charter school, violated my sons civil rights in the Most blatant an absurd ways. It was heartbreaking to see the damage they inflicted.

Thought this process I realized that the schools often have limited understanding of how to offer services outside the box. For example, the charter school refused to investigate anything but a mishmash of Wilson, Lindamood Bell, and Orton Gillingham, even though research says otherwise. However, they know they have the advantage because 8/9 out of 10 parents lose at due process. That is if parents can even afford due process.

I realized I need to focus my energies on creating programs that target administrators. If people are willing, please email me what you would like to see happen in your district. All information is confidential and will used to help me develop a program that would target school districts. I know how frustrating IEP meetings and just plain working with a school district can be.
