Helpin my cuz-aunt in NY

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi my Aunt lives in the Jamaica, NY area. I am trying to hook her up with services for my cousin who is starting Kindergarten and has been diagnosed with ADHD. She has no information and does not know where to look for help. She needs to know about schools in the area, support for how to deal with her in ways that are positive. This is very new to my aunt, so any links you can help us with is great to suggestions of good public schools. I have been trying, but I live in Illinois and that’s the only state I know specifics about. Thanks for your help.

http://www.yellowpagesforkids.com/help/ny.htm This is the Wrights Law “Yellow Pages” which lists advocacy groups and other services by state. It’s a good place for her to start.

Some listings she may find helpful:
The Family Resource Network, Inc. offers free Parent to Parent information.

Families Together in New York State, Inc. - Chapter of the Federation of Families. Great advocacy group.

Learning Disabilities Association of New York State - They can probably direct her to the nearest location. LDA often has great resources.

New York State Education Department - Here she can look up IDEA Law and specific codes for her state.

Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) - another good place for resoucres.

Hope these help her. :)
