IEP Goals and Objectives

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son’s IEP meeting is coming up soon. Next year he’ll be a 6th grader in middle school and he is GT/LD. His current goals and objectives are much too general and not very easy to measure. I’m looking for specific goals and objectives relating to organization, reading comprehension, writing, and assistive technology. Does anyone have specific goals and objectives to share or know of any Web sites, publications, software, etc., that contain specific goals and objectives by grade level or area of need?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

There are several posters to this BB who always have good answers to this kind of question and I trust you’ll hear from them. As your rethink his IEP it might also help to consider what is not getting done that you want done? What do you see as missing from his program? Are you basically happy with his IEP but want it to be more specific?

Many things in education are frustratingly not easy to measure and I’ll be interested if anyone out there can offer measurable goals in terms of organization. Organization is a task increasingly needed in schools but one I find more expected than taught.

I am not one of the “regulars” who has good sites for this, but hopefully one of them can give you some good information. However, I do have the following sites for IEP goals/objectives for older children. I hope they might help you.
