"My son is an apprentice . . ."

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi all,

I learned this game as a young child, and have taught it to all my children - really without even thinking about it. However, as I was driving in the car with my son and one of his friends the other day, and we were playing, I realized that this can be an excercise to help with various language skills.

To play: Someone says, “My son (daughter, mother, brother, etc.) is an apprentice at the grocery store (hardware store, gas station, nursery, etc.), and he sells something that begins with the letters “P, B.” So everyone takes turns guessing what those two words might be. (Peanut Butter). (You can use one word answers, depending on the level of who is playing.)

This helps my son with the beginning sounds of words, and with word retrieval - and it IS fun. :-)

Lil
