Paxil

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son was recently was referred to a psychiatrist by his therapist for an psychiatric evaluation. He will be 17 soon and has been on stimulant medication since he was 7 (presently on Adderal for his ADD). After meeting with the psychiatrist for only 30 minutes, he believes our son has social anxiety disorder along with mild depression and wants to try him on a small dosage of Paxil. I know with ADD that there can be co-existing disorders and I know my son exhibits anxieties, panic attacks on occasion, and I do believe he was beginning to feel depressed. I just hate seeing him on more medication, but I know these are very real problems he is experiencing. Do any of you have experience with Paxil? Thanks.

PASSWORD>aaI221mi7wL3IMy mother used to have depression and panic attacks. About 5 years ago a Psychiatrist put her on Paxil because she couldn’t function. Through the medication she got her life back and it has been the best thing for her. One of my students who is ADD is on an anti-depression medication instead of a stimulant. The change in her mental state and her ability to attend has been wonderful. It truly depends on the child and their own chemistry in their brain in regards to whether a stimulant or a anti-depression medication is called for.

We used Paxil for my son with autism. He was three at the time. He is now five and he has been on an SSRI for two years.

Our results were fantastic. The medicine helped his processing tremendously. We have switched from Paxil to Celexa, still with no adverse side effects.

Our doctor is Dr. Michael Goldberg of California. You can read about his protocol on www.neuroimmunedr.com.

Good luck,

My daughter was diagnosed ADD four years ago. Last year in the 7th grade, she developed an anxiety disorder. The psychiatrist put her on 25 mg. of Zoloft a day. She takes it along with her 15 mg. of Ritalin in the mornings before school. He also referred us to a Cognitive Behavior Therapist. The Zoloft helped tremendously along with seeing the therapist. She saw the Cognitive Behavior Therapist twice a week last summer and made incredible progress. She still gets very nervous when making oral presentations in class and around a LARGE group of her peers but she has come a LONG way!
