reversals and keyboarding

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My 9 y.o. 4th grade daughter is LD in reading/spelling, plus ADD-inattentive. She is doing pretty well with the right combination of accommodations/modifications and medication; learning at a good rate and making good grades. However, two problems I’d like to help her address now are 1) reversals, she still reverses letters ‘D’ and ‘Z’. I’ve tried giving her memory tips like- the ‘D’ is a straight line followed by a big tummy, and the ‘Z’ goes in the same direction as the number 2(which she doesn’t reverse). Hasn’t worked yet, any ideas? 2) keyboarding- despite not having classes, most of her peers seem to be able to keyboard fairly quickly (even if using just one or two fingers), my dau however is painfully slow to the point where she really can’t do it yet. Is this something that is amenable to a good computer game at home or is tutoring the way to go or ?? Thanks, MM
