TOWL, Dysgraphia, and IEP

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

EMAILNOTICES>noPASSWORD>aaZxdFVpHRwhEWe have an IEP coming up for our 10 yo son on March 19, and I have asked that he be tested for some kind of writing disability because I didn’t know then that it is called dysgraphia. His writing problems are, in part, due to ADHD, but it’s far more than just not being able to sit down to write… it’s the writing itself and the PROCESS of writing, e.g. sequencing, lack of fine motor skills, etc.On the assessmant plan form I’m wondering if a written test is masked someplace in the general category of “Perceptual-Motor Skills”? Is the school required to give the TOWL, or do I have to go outside the school to have one done? My experience has been that the school will not offer up anything! Also, is dysgraphia an “accepted” LD within IDEA, and on down to the school level?

They need to use achievement tests to test for the specific disability.: Also, is dysgraphia an “accepted” LD within IDEA, and on
: down to the school level? It is referred to as a Written Expression Disorder.Helen
