I just wanted to update all of you who tried to help me yesterday. I had the IEP meeting this morning and it was so easy. I got exactly what I wanted. At one point in the problem oriented conversation about why my son has so much trouble learning in groups, I raised the possibility of poor listening skills as contributing to but certainly not being the sole cause of some of the observed behaviors. I then directly asked the slt if she could provide him some explicit training. We talked about what this meant—we were clearly on the same page. She agreed and said other kids would benefit as well.
This meeting was such a far cry from the conflictual meetings I had repeatedly last year!!!
