Visualizing and Verbalizing

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have a 9th grade child who has difficulty with reading comprehension. He cannot visualize what he is reading therefore will not read. He also has trouble understanding notes that he takes in class although they are good and thorough. Along with this, he has ADD and slow processing. I’ve been told that the vv program would be very helpful for this. What I would like to know is if this is a program you can do at home or is it something you should go to a specialized therapist for.

My son is enrolled at a Lindamood Bell Center this sumemr near our home. He sounds a lot like your 9th grader only 9yrs old. After hearing what he is doing -on day 1, I am very hopeful that this is the way to go. He has to verbalize pictures and describe them in detail. He is telling a story and having to provide detail-this is key. He has some processing issues and auditory problems. Lindamood Bell is a program that you can do at home and can purchase this program at Amazon or ebay. I am choosing to send him to an expensive center which suggests 4 hours per day. My son is doing 2hrs to start. I could not commit this time at home.
