EMAILNOTICES>noPASSWORD>aa.WKuN.MsKscIt’s not uncommon, my child tried it but there were no noticeable differences in schoolwork or focus. Antidepressants seemed to help her with the irritibility more than anything— she tended to have a more positive outlook on life. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant, the same medication that is called Zyban when used to help people quit smoking (maybe you don’t need to know this, but it’s interesting, I think, that people taking it for depression reported a reduced desire to smoke!).

EMAILNOTICES>noPASSWORD>aaetA44bKITAII am very interested also as my son just started last Saturday on Wellbutrin for focusing too. He has been on Adderall all along. It helps with his hyperactivity but not attention span. I was advised that it could take up to 4 weeks to see the complete effect of the meds working together. At that time, the psychiatrist wants to possibly lower the Adderall dose a bit. As it is after 1 week, I really don’t see any difference.: Does anyone have any experience with Wellbutrin given in conjunction

PASSWORD>aaI221mi7wL3II was talking to a another mom whose son has ADHD. He had a lot of frustration and distractibility while on Adderall. He would have outbursts in the classroom when he got frustrated, he also has CAPD. They recently tried a small dosage of Wellbutrin and it has taken the edge off of his behavior in the classroom. She told me before the Wellbutrin he was constantly irritated by little noises, people breathing or chewing etc..now he is on an even keel and doing much better on the Adderall & Wellbutrin combination.

My son had been on adderall for nearly 3 years for ADHD and LD and then started developing terrible irritability coming down and we became very concerned…thinking it might be some other type of disturbance. He also developed tics. We took him off everything , then tried concerta. The small dose 18mg. Now, it seems that it is a bit too little. With concerta, you have to double the dose to increase it, which I think would probably be too much. I don’t like making a guinea pig out of my child. At least with the adderall we could slowly increase the dose to get it right. It doesn’t sound like the wellbutrin is the answer either. I know I am not the Dr. but he depends on the parent and teachers for guidance. He only sees him for a few min. in the office. It seems I am looking at ritalin (which is concerta), or adderall.Has anyone another idea? Reading this website has been very informative for me.Thanks .

Hi Leslie,

According to Dr. Amen in his book Healing ADD: The Breakthrough Program That Allows you to See and Heal the 6 Types of ADD, he prefers Adderall or Concerta for type 1, ADHD, and type 2, ADD. He indicates they last longer than regular-release Ritalin and Dexedrine - between 5-7hrs for Adderall and 10-11 hrs for Concerta, versus only 2-4hrs for regular-release Ritalin and Dexedrine. He also indicates that patients, parents and teachers say that Adderall and Concerta are smoother when they take effect and smoother when they wear off. He does note that Adderall and Concerta do not always work but Ritalin or Dexedrine may. For the other 4 types of ADD he identifies, he recommends other meds or combination of meds. I would encourage you to check out his website at http://www.brainplace.com.

Blessings, momo

I have other recent posts labeled dyslexia and ADHD. I just wanted to say that we are getting ready to try adderal. My daughter used concerta for 10 days and it made her hyper but more determined. The Dr. told us to try two pills and that should give the desired effect. WRONG! She was up til 1:00 AM and it was like watching someone come down off a terrible high. Agitation, twithching, anxiety…it was awful. wish me luck with the adderal! (And good luck to you!)
