What kind if school is best for a LD kid?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My daughter is 12, we live in northern California and we have tried three different schools both public & private and now a Waldorf charter. She has auditory processing & memory issues and in the process of being diagnosed for ADHD. We have taken her to reading specialist, a Linda mood bell tutor and now a one- on One combination of both.
School seems to b a waste of time for her, where she is barley learning anything! I am at my wits end and would do anything to just to focus all of her education and time on reading & writing so she can grow up knowing the basics.
We cannot afford pricey private schools, but are desperate for help.
Any recommendations would b greatly appreciated.

Hi Vanessa and welcome to the forum,

You wrote that your daughter has auditory processing issues. Though auditory processing is a complex process, so that their are different types of issues. Where it is important to understand the particular issues that she has, so that she can be supported in a way that suits her.
So that if she has had an auditory processing evaluation?
Then the sub-tests need to be looked at, to begin to understand what her difficulty actually is?
For example, with one type of APD, people have a difficulty with hearing high frequency sounds. So that they have a problem with hearing the sounds: s, sh, c, t in words.
Which of course causes a problem with reading and writing, if they don’t hear those sounds clearly in words?
So that to help people with this issue, their issue first needs to be understood.
So that I would highlight that her auditory processing issue really needs to be understood.
