College student testing

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

What exactly are my daughter’s rights regarding testing for LD/ADHD at the college level? Would we have to pay to have this done privately? The college counselor has agreed that she needs to be tested.

The schools are not obligated to pay for the testing. HOwever, there are often agencies that will do this and usually the folks at the disabilities office at the college will know how to get you in touch with them.

The other thing to do is check with your insurance company to see if they will pay for it. Then contact the college where your student wants to go and see if they have a list of who they use or if they offer the service on that campus.

Also check with your university to see if there is a graduate program in psychology. Many of these programs have students in training who will do the assessment at a very low cost. The students are supervised by licensed faculty.
