Graduate School: Reassesment?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I’m in the process of applying to graduate school for next year, and am considering whether I need to be re-assessed (essentially re-documented as learning disabled) in order to recieve accomodations in grad-school.

I’m not at all worried about the classwork, but more the oral & written qualifying exams (I know it’s a long way off, but I still want to take care of things earlier rather than later); I have almost never written a lengthy essay exam by hand. My last assessment was back in 1996 (I believe). Neuropsych testing is extremely expensive, though, and not covered by insurance.

I did my written exams on the computer, as did everyone else, and that was more than 10 years ago. So that may not be as much of a problem as you fear. I never took orals in the sense you mean, although my husband did.

I think there is a lot of variation between programs and I would wait and see if it necessary.
