Grant Cooper & Associates, a national retained executive search firm, is currently working with Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, to find an Assistant Director, Disability Resources. The specifications for the position are as follows:

I. CLIENT DESCRIPTION:

Our client, Washington University in St. Louis, founded in 1853, is a medium sized independent research university counted among the world’s leaders in teaching and research. II. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to: Director of the Center for Advanced Learning.

III. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Director for Disability Resources has primary responsibility for ensuring that Washington University complies with anti-discrimination disability laws. Responsibilities include guiding policy development, meeting with students to discuss disability-related accommodations, coordinating the delivery of services, accommodations and resources to students,conferring with faculty regarding potential requirements, providing referral to campus resources and providing regular professional development to university faculty and staff. This position requires the highest level of competence, sensitivity and integrity in all areas that relate to providing equal access and opportunity for students with disability status. In addition, this position works with other center program assistant directors to develop good ways to increase learning for all students.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS:

A doctorate in an appropriate field of study is preferred, but not required.

Must possess considerable knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title III of the American with Disabilities Act 1990.

Expertise and experience in the collection and use of data in affecting outcomes is critical.

Demonstrated ability to manage professional staff.

Excellent communication skills both orally and written, enhancing the ability to deliver effective public presentations.

Must be comfortable in interacting with all levels of the university administration and faculty on a daily basis.

Experience in higher education essential.
