Opinions regarding college dismissal and ADHD diagnosis

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi everyone,

My name’s Lauren and I’m a 20 year old college student. When I went away to Ohio State after high school, I was put on academic probation after my first quarter due to poor grades. My grades did not improve in the following quarter, leading to my dismissal. In the first week after my dismissal I got tested for something I’d wondered about for years- ADHD. I was diagnosed with a pretty strong case of it and was suggested medication. This diagnosis explained my failure at Ohio State. I was studying for hours and retaining nothing, feeling terribly unmotivated, it was nearly impossible to concentrate, etc.

Here’s my main question:
Because I was diagnosed with a learning disorder that clearly affected my academic success, does any law protect me from the college dismissal or grant me a required second chance?
Any stories, links, or input would help a lot. Thanks!
