school/program recommendations

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello all,

I’m new to this BB, but not to LD Online. I am interested in pursuing a Doctorate in a fieild that would allow me to explore my interests in teaching, learning, ways of knowing, learning disabilities, thinking, philosophy, and psychology. I am wondering if any of you have recommendations of schools and academic programs that would encompass these related, but varied interests.

I presently have a M.Ed. in Higher Education and a BFA in painting, but am realizing that my interests are taking me elsewhere. I am willing to take some prep classes if need be…

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

Ben

I was once very impressed with a program I read of at Northwestern. They had a department dedicated to authentic learning. I think they called it ‘cognitive science’. The department centered around the idea that many of our practices in school do not foster learning and they pursued the study of practices that would foster learning in all children and every child.
