Accelerated Math Program

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Our school is now implementing the Accelerated Math Program. Is this an OK program for the kids struggling with Math? I was not impressed with the Accelerated Reading Program that our Title I used as its primary remediation reading program.

I have been using Accelerated Math in my classroom for 2 years. I have several LD students who are in the program. As a word of warning—there is a lot of reading involved with Acclerated Math. If your child has difficulties in Reading, he/she may have problems with AM. The child will need to always be encouraged to READ and ask questions.
I do not use Accelerated Math as an independent study type class. All my students are taught each objective at the same time. The best part of AM is that each student has their own assignment—no cheating, and each student is constantly reviewed on their own problem areas.

The Math program works a lot differently than tha Reading Program.
