Acceptance of kids with disabilities in an inclusive class

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone have any successful strategies for encouraging and teaching kids in an inclusive classroom to accept and respect students with disabilities? Thanks for any advice you may have to offer a student teacher!

It’s a community building process. You can’t do it without working hard with others to create a supportive community, and it really helps to have that attitude pervade the school.
There’s a neat article called “teaching tolerance” (which is more about tolerating things than the political ‘tolerance’ concept and imho more useful ;))
