Alpha-Phonics/PhonicsTutor vs. Phono-Graphix

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am looking for a good reading program so I can start teaching my child in SK to read. (His older brother is dyslexic and learning disabled, and while #2 shows few signs of being LD too—just lateness in establishing a hand preference and some resulting motor control problems with printing, I’m not taking any chances with the whole-language, incidental phonics approach used in grade one here.) I have bought the Phono-Graphix book and like the look of it, but I am curious about the Alpha-Phonics/PhonicsTutor program; the PhonicsTutor CD Rom program is based on the book by Samuel Blumenfeld, and can be purchased with it along with the Blumenfeld book and workbooks. I’ve read lots of opinions on Phono-Graphix but wonder if anyone is familiar with or has used the Blumenfeld-based program (which uses a combo of word families and Orton-Gillingham phonograms)?Thank you for your feedback.
