Anyone please help!!

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son is in the 4th grade and he has always been a little behind from the other in his class. He has such a hard time staying on task and focusing. It has been hurting him for the last 2 years. Really good doctors are seeing him. He is on Strattera and Adderall XR. Can any one please help me with some suggestion? Also! What kind of accommodations do you have listed as for focusing and staying on task on you IEP? I do not know what else to do he is falling behind and starting to hate school, he is only in the 4th grade. You can also email us at [email protected]

If you can afford it, PACE would probably help considerably (http://www.processingskills.com ). If you are on a budget, the home version of this program is also very good (http://www.brainskills.com ). Another home program is Audiblox (http://www.audiblox2000.com ). All of these programs work on a wide range of cognitive skills, including attention skills — the ability to sustain focus, the ability to sustain focus in the presence of distractions, and the ability to multi-task.

Another program you may want to look into is Interactive Metronome. IM has a good track record with ADD children.

If you were to do both therapies, I would do IM first and then the cognitive skills training program (preferably PACE, although the others are good also).
