I teach physical education classes for elementary and I have a few children who have been diagnosed with ADD and specifically one of the children I cannot get to pay attention and participate with the class. He will continually get distracted and wander off. Does anyone know of any physical activities, modifications, or teaching methods that will work to keep him interested???
I don’t know of any teaching methods, but I can tell you from what I have researched, children w/ ADD typically do not do well in team sports. They have a hard time staying focused, and often wander off. I had to pull my five year old out of soccer, because he was having a difficult time playing and participating with his team. He also would often wander off in the middle of the game, or lie down on the field, or even start fighting with other kids. Exercises that work are running, jogging, swimming, bowling, karate. Anything that’s not team oriented.
hope that helps!
