ieps

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi,
I plan to remove my 11 yr old from public school and begin homeschooling him. He has been in part-time special ed. Can anyone please tell me if I am required to provide an iep or educational consultant? We live in VA and I haven’t been able to receive specific information on this. All I have been told is that I don’t have to provide the superintendent with an iep when I send in my letter of intent to homeschool.
Any information would be very helpful.
Thanks

http://www.gomilpitas.com/homeschooling/index.html is a great website to use as a reference point.
http://www.gomilpitas.com/homeschooling/regional/Virginia.htm has a lengthy list of organizations & resources for VIrginia homeschoolers. I’d get a couple of opinions :)
http://www.gomilpitas.com/homeschooling/laws/blVA.htm outlines the laws in Virginia (though as it states, it’s not a lawyer!).

There’s nothing there that mentions an IEP or special rules (in fact “special” isn’t found on the page — “disabilities” is only there once) for special ed kiddos.
