: What were the results of those tests? What kinds of issues are causing her problems with listening comprehension and math reasoning? She is reading on grade level and that’s great. When you speak to her, or others speak to her through everyday conversation, does she comprehend that? I would be more concerned about listening comprehension problems than math reasoning problems. However, to remediate math reasoning issues, I’d work with her or have someone work with her - one on one. Math reasoning may not come naturally to some children but it can be taught, even if slowly.Listening comprehension responds to remediation as well but it’s necessary to know if her listening comprehension issues manifest in one on one conversation or if they manifest in a classroom setting.Speech/language pathologists are often the people to work with listening comprehension issues.Good luck.My daughter is in the 2nd grade - her math reasoning and listening

:My son has CAPD, but like your daughter was at grade level for reading. He is naturally good at math, but language got in the way. For example, in first grade he didn’t understand the meaning of “between” and, thus, couldn’t name a number between 20 and 30. I did Saxon math with him every day for about twenty minutes. I find this is a very good series for kids with language problems—it seems to anticipate which words might be problems and works with them. For “between”, for example, we worked on putting a spoon between the knife and fork, the fork between the knife and spoon, etc. The series also takes a step by step approach to word problems. The first steps are done many times and then built upon. The website is saxonpub.com. The workbooks alone are very helpful, but in your dd’s case you might also wanting the teaching manual, which tells you everything (literally, word by word) for you to say to explain concepts clearly. I stopped doing Saxon after third grade (too much homework from school), but it’s given him a really solid foundation in math.
