Need Help with DD, Auditory Processing Disorder

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello, new gal here. I’m a homeschool mom looking for advice re: my 7.5 yo daughter. She has auditory processing disorder and language problems.

As a baby she was a late talker and had a limited vocabulary. Her current issues are with expressive language (has trouble finding the right words, limited vocabulary and poor grammar) and receptive language (poor comprehension and retention).

I’ve heard of so many options out there (Lindamood-Bell, Tomatis, FastForward, IdeaChain) and am not sure which would help her. All of them are so expensive and requires a bit time commitment.

I’m looking for something I can do at home that would not require hours a day. I’m open to taking her to a SLP if my insurance covers it (PPO).

Would appreciate wise advice!

Even though you homeschool, you should look into testing and services through the school district. They are obligated to provide services, even to homeschoolers. She could get services at the local school or the district offices.
