I’ve got to write this… My own post, although viewed by nearly 100 individuals, was not responded to by anyone except myself! In looking through a few other posts, I’ve found the same thing to be true, in at least a few situations— sometimes, even hundreds of people are viewing posts, but very few, if any, respond. When I and (I am taking the liberty to assume that others) “spill our guts” on these and other message boards, we are hoping to get some feedback from others who have shared our experiences, even if it’s just a “NOT been there and done that.”
I’ve been posting on various message boards for years in regard to my 15 year old ADHD son, and have alway had at LEAST one or two reponses. What’s the problem here?
Re: Not much feedback from these boards....
Quite simply, I don’t talk unless I have something to say.
If it’s a topic I don’t have any experience in, I leave it alone.
And if there’s a topic where I think the poster is being unreasonable (not this one, but some others) and doesn’t want to listen to reason, I leave that alone too.
One of the reasons I come to this board a lot is that it is NOT filled up with a lot of people playing “Ain’t It Awful”.

I’m new to this board. I am having trouble navigating. Can someone explain how to respond to a posting (I’m not sure who I’m responding to as there was only one respond button at the top, but many messages below). Also, is this real time? Guess I’ll find out when I hit submit
Re: Not much feedback from these boards....
This board has gone through a number of different incarnations in the three years I’ve been hanging around here — I think this is the fourth. The former wide-open boards, which had a nice thread and sub-thread reply system, were attacked by internet trolls and were in danger of collapsing altogether because it was impossible to have any kind of sensible conversation, and people were being frightened off by the nasty tone maintained by the trolls.
So the LDOnline management decided to move to the present system, which many of us didn’t care for at first, because it is possible to moderate in real time. We’re kind of stuck with the clunkiness of this system until a better bulletin board management program comes along affordably.
On this system, we are stuck with replying at the bottom of the thread. You just get used to the reply applying two or three messages above.
If your topic is really different or urgent, feel free to use the “new topic” button at the top of the page or at the bottom of a post, and start a new thread.
It is more or less real time; your reply will show up within a minute or two as soon as the server gets it through.
LDOnline wants to keep the “Guest” option since much of the material discussed here is extremely personal and private in nature, and there are issues with family, medical and legal confidentiality, and teachers keeping their jobs. This means we are stuck with the present board until a better one comes along; other highly moderated boards require a signup and many people are worried about confidentiality with that, as well as excesive censorship.
The “Guest” function does let the troll get in now and then — please just ignore him, we have tried and he is dedicated to his obsessions, sorry — but the moderation of the board is getting more active so threatening, obscene, and untrue posts will disappear fairly quickly; you can report them to LDOnline by clicking on the name ont he top announcement and sending a pm, and they will disappear even faster.
Hope this clarifies what is going on. Welcome.
Re: Not much feedback from these boards....
Victoria, thanks.
To the origional subject, I’ll agree that it does seem kind of quiet around here (“Helloooo out there…”). But LD’s forum is the best I’ve found. I like the format, I “get it”. The other format, it kind of looks like imperical note taking form, I just don’t get. I don’t know what to click on, where the beginning of the message starts, etc.
In any case, it’s too bad there isn’t more traffic here, since this is such a good site!
Re: Not much feedback from these boards....
the faster responses tend to be on the parent boards, not the teacher boards on this site
The reason people are not responding is that the advice you need is more legal than ADHD in nature. If you were looking for help with managing the behavior of your child, I’m sure you would get some answers. You wanted to hear about particular rules in California on truancy. I think most here simply lack expertise in that area.
