PG supplemental books: games, centers, card games, quickies

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

If you use Phono-graphix in your classroom read this:

I just received my 2 supplental books called I’m Game and Deal Me In (20 games). If you are using PG in the classroom might want to add these books to your teacher toolbox. To me this makes PG so much more complete for the classroom use in general ed or LD class. I kept asking myself, what can the other kids be doing while I work one on one with blending and segmenting. Well, this is it. All of these games will supplement PG learning the code etc….THe games look fabulous.

Next year, now that I’m officially trained, I plan on getting throught the majority of PG the first quarter of school and then get into real books. These games are just what I needed to fill in here and there. They exceeded my expectations. They are organized and quick and easy. A few will take some set up time but most of what I need is included.

If you use Phono-graphix, I strongly suggest you find about $70.00 and if you can. It will save you hours of time thinking up activities. It’s all here. Some of these games are spin offs to other games I’ve played with other concepts so I know they will go over well. SOme are quickies used for fillers, some are centers, some are partner games, some are whole group games.

Go to www.readamerica.net and look under materials and go to the bottom if you are interested. It think they are each about $35.00. They are organized so that at a quick glance you can see which level it is good for basic code, advanced etc… I was a little reluctant to fork out more money once again for my classroom, but I’m glad I did as I think it will save me hours. I’m glad I found these earlier vs. later in my PG career. I’m sure I could have come up with a few of them myself but for me it is worth it to have it all done for me. Everything is included. I will have to photocopy the card decks etc.. but that shouldn’t be too hard.

Tough question.

If I had to choose one book I’d go for I’m Game. Looks like there are about 15 CENTERS in the book plus more which would help with independent activities. THere is a note in the centers page that says, “games that take a little more time to make but ring long lasting fun and great Phono-Graphix reinforcement.” Many of the other activities seem lend themselves to groups or partner. The other book has 20 Card Games with PG levels differentiated.

Both books look great but if I had to choose one I’d choose I’M GAME which is Games, Centers, and Hand-On Activities. More variety. I get bored so I like variety. Having these books will really help me to get my first grade team to buy into PG for general ed. Lots of reinforcement activites that teachers need to fill up their day with lots of learners. These activities seem very worth while too, not busy work. They all line up with PG objectives that are spelled out. You will have no trouble getting started.

THere are 184 pages in the book I’m Game and about 130 in the other book. If you use PG perhaps you could get your school to cough up the money. Just a thought.
