Private School and ADHD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I’m a teacher at a private school and we have a few kids who have clear cases of ADHD. What do we do since we are private I can’t go to the state. Our owners make tons of money by having these kids in grades that they shouldn’t be but keep them in because of money.

Since ADHD is a medical issue, the first thing to do is suggest to the parents that they seek a medical opinion about this possibility. If a diagnosis is obtained, you could also consult with the local public school to see if there may be any special education services available. Public schools are required to provide special education services (even in private schools) if a student is found eligible.
