a response to the PROFESSIONALS on this board

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Thank you to those who responded to my original message with good-hearted intent and professionalism. I appreciated those who seriously acted as “mentors” offering advice and naming resources that could be used throughout the year. Thank you Melanie, for being the first to respond and please know that I realize your response was sincere. I am sure it never crossed your mind that you would be verbally attacked by other so called professionals who should be on here to help others and not to judge and condemn. This is a message board! NEVER did I anticipate, when writing my first message last week that it would elicit such petty responses. I got to the point that I began to laugh, though, at those who had no better use of time but to criticize of someone’s spelling and all the while, were making hideous typo’s, spelling errors, and HUGE grammar errors as well. It was ironically so funny. I resisted the urge to correct these mistakes, as I would have been lowering myself to their level. All that wasted time! What a shame! I’m sure that you will hesitate before posting to this board again, Melanie. I know I will.
As for those who sent wonderful words of encouragement, I thought I would update you on my situation. Last week was my first week as a LD teacher and I loved it! My principals, as well as my two mentor teachers, were very impressed with the progress I made in just one week. I received nothing but positive comments and a TON of support and resources. One of my mentors is our Diagnostic Resource Consultant and she commented right away about my natural ability to individualize my lessons to meet each students needs and incorporate their benchmarks for the year. She said she was impressed and I’m doing great so far. I have to admit, I felt successful as well. I know I’ve certainly got my work cut out for me, but the support as this school is WONDERFUL so far. I really feel that I will be able to grow as a professional here. Thank you to those who cared enough to respond to my “panic” last week. I wasn’t sure if I could do this, but I now know I can!
Sincerely,
Susan

Way to go Susan. My 9 yr. old ld son reads people like a book and is very aware when teachers want to help him.

Your kids will respond to your caring and enthusiasm the parents will know too.

It is to bad that folks here cannot tolerate the learning differences people have. Who give a ____ if the teacher can’t spell well, model use of a spell checker etc. etc.. Who cares about grammar ability, acknowledge it and model alternatives tool that help you to be an effective writer.
Get real, I am glad my children or I do not work with people like this.
