My daughter is 16 and is a slow processor but diligent worker. I have been investigating Dragon Naturally SPeaking and Windows 7 Speech REcog. to help speed up her homework (we homeschool but she still takes a long time to do written work even though she’s also a good typist.)
Are there any students here who successfully use either of those softwares?
We downloaded Dragon on the ipod touch for free and it was terrible.
I tried the Windows 7 tutorial 3 times on our laptop and then bought a headset mike (logitech) that was supposed to be successful with it, and so far I have not been able to get one single whole word to appear on the screen.
The frustration level was so high that I cannot imagine my daughter, who has low frustration tolerance, would be able to use it.
I would love to hear from students who are using it, and how they got to be successful at it, and what kind of microphones they have.

Speech to text software - An;yone using it?
My daughter is learning to use this Dragon at Landmark College, so she has the advantage of the librarian to help her learn how to use it. She told me it is super helpful and she loves it. She did say that the program has to get used to the user’s voice.

The iPod touch app does not have training, but the full version does. As a result, the full version gets much more accurate over time.
Nancy, Dragon has the best reputation for speech to text software and many people find it really helpful.
Though the most important thing is to spend plenty of time on training it to recognise your voice.
Also with the microphone, did you adjust the settings for it and test it, through Control Panel?
