Stevenson's reading/spelling

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My ds has a photographic memory for people, places and events. However, when it comes to remembering math facts/phonograms, even after drilling for a year, he will forget a lot of them if we don’t do them weekly. For this reason I know he hasn’t transferred this knowledge into his long-term memory. There have been times though that he has remembered facts. This past year we studied astronomy and we also memorized the planets in order using a silly sentence. Just the other day, I asked him if he still remembered the silly sentence, which he did, and he also remembered the planets in order. This type of memory learning (mnemonics) is very effective with him. Of all the reading programs I’ve looked at, the one I think would be most effective is Stevenson’s Language. Anyone have experience using this?Kristi

It has lots of repetition. I use the Stevenson language with the kids in the LAB class and use LMB techniques.

Thanks for answering my questions. I’d like to know which one of their manuals has most of the needed mnemonics in it for reading and spelling. I want to use it as a resource for when my son struggles with remembering something.: Stevenson’s uses lots of mnemonics. We use it at the learning center

PASSWORD>aaI221mi7wL3IThe manual is broken into several levels. I am not sure which one would be the best to purchase, I don’t have a manual of my own. I have used the one at work for the younger kids but there are A, B, and other level manuals some are for reading and the other for language. It all depends where your child is in the program as to which manual would be appropriate.Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
