Hi, my name is Carol and I am new to this site. I have a 13 year old that is ADD/LD especially in math but because of slow processing and short term memory problems, almost every subject is effected. I have been homeschooling him since the 4th grade and he is progressing very nicely, but has trouble with testing each year. Standardized testing is so long and involved and the Kaufman puts a lot of pressure on him giving his answers aloud on a one on one situation. I was wondering if anyone could suggest testing for a student with these type of problems. Thanks for any suggestions!
Re: Testing for ADD/LD Homeschoolers
Hi Sue,
Yes, he can do a variety of problems and usually tests average on math computation, but math concepts and applications is extremely weak.
I have not heard of the Key Math test you mentioned. How can I find out more information about it as well as other achievement tests that are appropriate for LD kids.
Thanks for your input.

I’ve used the KeyMath test but it would have the same kinds of “oral answer” probelms. In general, kids have moretrouble on the standardized tests that cover a lot of everythign — they can’t do as they can for daily lessons and look back at the example.
Can he do mixtures of different kinds of problems day to day? Practicing that — beginning each lesson with some “easy” problems using earlier concepts until he can just do them cold on any given day can really help at testing time — and in life.
