I am confused about what Phono-graphix materials to order and which training to sign up for. Has anyone out there done the online training? How does it compare with actually working with a trained person? I could start the online course right away but will have to wait until summer to take it with an instructor. Should I order the full kit with transparencies if I am using it with a group of 8 students? Also I need to know what to order of the Verbal Intelligence materials. I have one student in particular who does not seem to understand or relate to what she reads or what is read to her. Thanks so much for helping me with this.

(And yes, definitely take the live PG training even if you have to wait until summer. I have run across one person who was using it entirely wrong even though they had the online course. Just read the Reading Reflex book for now and and your kit will come with the training as Nancy said).

Taking the training in person is far superior to doing the online course. I would recommend waiting and doing it over the summer. You cannot order a full kit until you are signed up for a training course (it is included in the training fee). I haven’t checked out kit options lately. I’m not sure I would get transparencies for working with a group of 8 — that would be something you should probably check out with someone who has experience working with a group this size.
There is nothing in the Language Wise materials that isn’t already described in the book, “How To Increase Your Child’s Verbal Intelligence”. Basically the kit is just a set of record-keeping sheets for the exercises. Someone who wants to get certified in Language Wise needs to keep these records and then have them reviewed by ReadAmerica in order to get certified. Don’t order these materials unless you are sure you want to get certified in Language Wise, and personally I would wait on that.
Verbal Intelligence may not be what this child needs most. You may want to back up and consider using either IdeaChain (http://www.mindprime.com ) or LMB’s Visualizing and Verbalizing.
