Can anyone explain to me in layman’s terms what exactly is binocular vision dysfunction and how it affects reading/learning. My 11 year old son was diagnosed with this by a behavior optimologist (along with tracking problems) and is undergoing vision therapy. I don’t understand the impact this problem has on reading and/or learning. I’m also homeschooling him. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Here's another website with good definitions.....

Thank you MaryMN!
I finally understand. You said it so simply. Now I know why my son can read directions (1-2 lines) no problem but when asked to read paragraphs, he reads the first line or 2 great and then just falls apart. Thanks again!!
http://www.childrensvision.com for some good explanations.
Binocularity refers to the ability of the eyes to work together to form a single image. For easy reading, the eyes should be able to do this automatically.
Some children can do this for awhile but, because the muscles are working inefficiently, the muscles get fatigued too quickly. When the eye muscles become fatigued, vision is blurred. Sometimes the brain suppresses the image from one eye in order to keep a clear image from the other. With some children the blurring occurs almost immediately at reading distance.
