Reading Series

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am looking to purchase a reading series for my elementary resource students as a supplement to the other instructional materials I use with them. I have been using MacMillan’s Reading Express and the Scott Foresman Focus on Reading, but they are very outdated. I am interest in a graded series with stories, comprehension activities, and other skll development materials. I need help—I appreciate any information/suggestions from other teachers! Thank You!

Connie, I am not an elementary teacher, but I do know what some elementary teachers as well as homeschoolers are using with success. You may want to look into Saxon Phonics, Recipe for Reading, Expode the Code & Beyond the Code Series, and Angling for Words.

I am a brand new volunteer reading tutor for grades 2-4. I heard about this site and am enjoying the tips and tricks used to help kids appreciate the joys of reading. Any ideas for a newby would be gratefully accepted. Thanks

We have always supplemented in our Title I and Resource rooms with Project Read. This year, we are expanding to use Read Naturally, Great Leaps, and Lexia Learning Systems. We are getting training this summer in Language! I trust all the programs selected by Spris West catalog as they are a publishing house with a commitment to publishing research-based materials with good evidence of success with the most challenged children.

I love all of Valerie’s suggestions, as well.
