Audioblox, Balametrics, TLP, or Brain Gym?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi there,

I have a 16 year old son with Apsergers who I’ve homeschooled for 3 years. He’s going back to public school next Fall. He struggles with dysgraphia/written expression and reduced cognitive processing speed. I’ve seen all sorts of possible intervention to complement any accommodations, specifically Balametrics, Audioblox, The Listening Program, and Brain Gym. Which of these, if any, would be best suited for his needs. He established lateral dominance fairly late and had delayed fine and gross motor skills. He doesn’t appear terribly clumsy, but I’m not sure he’s had an opportunity to demonstrate this lately.

Any help/advice appreciated!

Hi Elisa,
You can get a book from BrainGym for about $10, which outlines the basic approach and some exercises. Which could be helpful?
It does focus on lateralisation exercises and gross and fine motor skills.
Though something that has been discussed quite often as being helpful, is learning Martial Arts, such as Tai Kwon Doh. For lateralisation and motor skills.
As your son is 16, he might quite enjoy it as well, as it is not seen as therapy?
Geoff.

I’ll order that book, thanks! He did Tae Kwan Doe for a few years, and I think it has helped. He didn’t like the regimented aspect of it, being kind of a free spirited boy. He enjoys mountain biking, skateboarding, etc.
