Son just evaluated-- KABC II IQ testing?? Ideas

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Son is 5 in 4yr old preschool due to cut off in Dec and Nov bday.
I had IQ testing and beh evals done. The pysch used KABC II. It us scored using percentle rank—
Visual Processing 91
Long Term Storage and Retreival 87
Crystallized ability 97
fluid crystallized index 85
Short Term Memory 58

He noted the large difference with short term memory compared to other areas— even though it is average (58) it is much lower than rest.

Is this evident of LD??

My son also lacks pragmatics— he has intent to play but does not use his “reciprical language skills” to do so for long time.
My son has “extensive vocabulary to pull from, but the pragmatics of how he is using language is an area of concern.”

Mava’s right, one score does not an LD discern :-)

It is a flag of sorts… but mainly, it is a piece of useful knowledge. Work with him on engaging in dialogue and always be sure to give him time to think and process; you can also teach him strategies to build that memory (like reciting things back in his mind or back at you, or visualizing them, esp. since that processing is such a strength) and help him to attach words to his visual processing.

What do measures of his language skills show? Sometimes these very-visual kiddos can really benefit at this young age with consciously learning to label all that visual stuff.
