need help, long

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son was diagnosed with mild dyslexia, severe visual processing disorder and moderate auditory processing disorder this summer.
He is 8 1/2 and in 2nd grade. The person who evaluated him said he would not succeed unless he had tutoring, and I agree he needs it.
However, the school he belongs to does not have any services for children with LD and if I take him where he was evaluated I spend 1 hour in the car, making his day a 10 hour day start to finish.
I am at my witts end. He has recently started coming home from school with “tummy aches”. Shortly after I had him evaluated I took him to the Dr. for these “tummy aches” and she said there was nothing worng and was most likey stress of some sort. She talked with him encouraging him and he was instantly better. This leads me to beleive he interprets stress as “tummy aches”. He cannot communicate any other way, when asked what’s wrong he doesn’t want to talk or just “doesn’t know”.
I am wondering if anyone has had similar issues and what worked with them? Has anyone tried to homeschool with these issues, and sent them for tutoring outside?
What was your experience?
I have done lots of research online but living in Singapore I am not finding alot of resources that will suite our needs.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does he also have problems writing? Does he have a home computer? Does he deal with computers O.K.? Did the testers talk about whether he is a global or a detail thinker (generally termed as spatial or sequential)?

Make sure his teacher(s) is not rigid. I made the mistake of confusing structured with rigid - not at all the same thing. Rigid teachers are generally a disaster for these kids.
