I have been using a reading & spelling method called Phono-Graphix. It works wonders! I found out about the program when I bought the book “Reading Reflex” from my local bookstore. After just 12 hours, my son is now reading one year above his grade level. I think all teachers & parents should check it out!!!
Re: How wonderful to get the school to do this! NT
It is a most unusual situation. The principal is a former school psychologist and he has a doctorate in education. He has read the reading research and realizes we need to intervene long before a child would be identified LD reading. I used to work with him in the public school system. He is principal of a charter school now, so he has little bureacracy to hold him back from trying innovative things. He has listened to me for hours this year as I have researched various programs. We decided PG would be fairly easy to implement and hopefully very effective with most of our young, low readers. We are hoping to get the LD teacher trained in all the Lindamood-Bell programs this summer to increase her expertise. The SLP also plans to get the LiPS training, so we should be in pretty good shape for next year.

Just bought it yesterday!
I just purchased Reading Reflex yesterday and am looking forward to starting it next week (or when my son goes “off-track” from school next month. It sounds very good!
Today I had to stop by the library and checked out the author’s other book; “How to Increase your child’s Verbal Intelligence.” For children who also have possible speech/language issues, this may be helpful. It’s rather nice because it’s filled with lots of language exercises and activities (in a wide variety of areas (vocabulary, logical reasoning, memory, grammar, creativity, etc…)
Sarah,
I learned about Reading Reflex on this board. I am going to the Read America conference in New Orleans in April. I am also getting the LD teacher at my child’s school to go! They are offering a 1 day training workshop at the conference in addition to other speakers. My child’s school hopes to offer 12 hours of tutoring this summer. I am helping them screen the first graders now using the tests in the Reading Reflex book. I also plan to use it with my hearing impaired students. I’m so happy to hear another success story! Thanks!
